WA State Emergency Services (SES) is a division of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services of Western Australia (DFES). The role of the SES is multi-faceted and primarily includes dealing with the after-effects of natural disasters such as storms, cyclones, floods, earthquakes and tsunamis. In addition, the SES carries out land search, cliff and cave rescue and, in some regions, road trauma and vehicle rescue.
There are over 2,500 volunteers in the State Emergency Services division; a well-trained group which is able to also provide support services to the WA Police and other emergency service organisations, by providing radio communications, transport services, and other support for emergency service personnel involved in protracted incidents.
