ROLES and TRAINING
The roles undertaken by SES volunteers are diverse and may include:
Storm damage mitigation and temporary repairs
Map reading and navigation
Communications
Land Search
Flood response and rescue
Aerial Water Bomber reloading
First Aid
Welfare
Incident and Operations Management
Administration
Along with other tasks requested in support of other emergency management agencies.
Training
Weekly training in general skills is undertaken on Monday evenings (except on public holidays) at our Unit from 1830 hours to approximately 2100 hours, and there are also opportunities for weekend training courses to be undertaken.
SES volunteers train regularly in leadership, incident and organisational management, first aid and casualty handling, map reading and navigation, radio communications, land search techniques, storm damage techniques, flood boat rescue, general rescue, driving vehicles for emergencies, single rope techniques (abseiling) and vertical rescue, ground support for fire services and other areas.
